Description

The Apicella’s vineyard is located in the municipality of Tramonti in the heart of Amalfi Coast, set in the protected natural area of Monti Lattari.

The vines are un-grafted pre-phylloxera grown in a pergola style in 7 hectares of terraces, located at an altitude between 300 & 600 metres above sea level.

The land consists of tufa, limestone & schist which attracts plenty of direct sunshine.

Tramonti Rosso Riserva “A’ Scippata” from Cantine Apicella takes its name from the land of the same name on which the ungrafted Tintore and Piedirosso grapes are grown. From a slightly late harvest, after two years of refinement in oak barrels, an intense and soft wine is created.

Vinification: Giuseppe Apicella Costa A’ Scippata grapes are carefully harvested manually, with delicate de-stemming. Once de-stemmed, selected yeasts are added to the must and ferments in thermo-conditioned steel tanks, with long maceration, aging for 24 months partly in large barrels and partly in French oak barriques.

Grape varieties: 80% Tintore Nero & 20% Piedirosso

Tasting Notes: In the glass, this is a wine with a ruby red colour and violet reflections, the aromas are intense and persistent, recalling red fruit, cherries, blueberries and plums with a clear spicy note, on the palate a’ Scippata is a soft and “succulent” wine.

Alcohol: 14.5%

Serving temperature: 16-18C

Ideal With: Beef in a tomato ragu’, Game, or a good mature hard cheese

Fettine alla pizzaiola-Beef Fillets with tomato & oregano
