Feudi di San Gregorio Piano Di Montevergine Taurasi Riserva 2014-The Barolo of the South

Feudi di San Gregorio Piano Di Montevergine Taurasi Riserva 2014-The Barolo of the South

Feudi di San Gregorio Piano di Montevergine is located close to Taurasi village in the north-east of the DOCG, from where unquestionably, the flagship wine of Feudi di San Gregorio; a red noble Taurasi that can, in all respects, be considered among the best wines of the whole Campania. We at Campania Wines are so pleased to have secured several cases of this special and critically acclaimed fine wine.

A DOCG since 1993, Taurasi has been likened to Barolo. It represents what can occur if great quality grapes, terroir and the wine makers know how is used to produce something special. Feudi’s Piano Di Montevergine is only produced when the harvest has been deemed ‘outstanding’. The 2014 vintage only produced 12,000 bottles.

The DOCG rules state that Taurasi must age for 3 years, with at least one year in wood. This Riserva is aged for much longer – 18-24 months in new oak barriques, with a further 24 months in the bottle. The result is a wine that is deep ruby red in colour, with aromas of blackberry, black cherry, balsamic, and dark chocolate which tantalised your senses. In the mouth it is soft, with an excellent balance and long length,

It’s a powerful, complex, and refined wine that can stand shoulder to shoulder with any premium Barolo. Overall, quite a bold wine now; this wine will improve over time.

So much waiting is amply rewarded!

We suggest decanting the wine for 2 hours and serve between 18ºC and 20ºC. Ideal with Game, strong aged cheeses, roast, and grilled lamb.

Gambero Rosso awarded the 2014 vintage 3 Bicchieri, James Suckling 92/100. It certainly is a wine to savour.
