Description

Costa delle Parracine is the latest venture from the Feudi di San Gregorio Group, launched in partnership with Tenuta C’est la Vie, owner of a historic wine estate on the island of Ischia.
Ischia boasts a rich winemaking tradition dating back to the early Middle Ages, evidenced by 9th-century amphorae and a 1036 AD document referencing widespread viticulture.
A defining feature of the island is its mosaic of Parracine—dry-stone walls built over centuries by master stonemasons using green tuff from Mount Epomeo.
These walls not only mark the land but also shelter the island’s terraced vineyards, preserving their beauty and integrity.
Located in the Forio area, the estate includes a cellar carved from green tuff in 1878, still in use today.
The wine label features the island’s silhouette and a leaping rabbit—Liparina in local dialect—a symbol deeply rooted in Ischian culture.
Costa delle Parracine is Ischia in a glass.

Forastera is a white grape variety cultivated on approximately 50 hectares across Italy, predominantly in Campania. Historically grown on the islands off the Campanian coast—especially Ischia—it played a vital role in revitalizing vineyards during the phylloxera crisis of the mid-19th century, thanks to its vigour. Its name reflects its origin outside the island.

Since the late 1800s, Forastera has been a key companion to Biancolella in Ischia’s viticulture.

This cultivation not only emphasizes the importance of Forastera in Ischia’s wine scene but also connects to the broader narrative of Costa delle Parracine Forastera, showcasing the region’s commitment to quality and heritage.

The grape cluster is medium-sized, loosely packed, and typically cylindrical or pyramidal. Berries are medium-sized with thin skins and a yellowish-green hue.

Forastera produces a fresh, well-balanced wine with delicate floral notes, hints of citrus and white peach, and a subtle mineral finish.

Grape Variety: Forastera
Denomination: DOC Forastera Ischia
Location: Forio
Area: 1.5 ha
Elevation: 300 m a.s.l.
Soil: Volcanic
Training System: Guyot
Vine Age: 25 years
Vinification: 4 months in stainless steel
Production: 10,000 bottles (0.75 L)

Alcohol: 12.5%

Tasting Notes: A light, crisp, and refreshing Forastera, offering delicate aromas of citrus zest and green apple. On the palate, it reveals a vibrant minerality, balanced by a subtle almond nuance that lingers gracefully on the finish. This wine captures the essence of Ischia’s volcanic terroir and coastal breezes in every sip.

Ideal With: Wines made from Forastera pair exceptionally well with seafood, thanks to their vibrant acidity and saline minerality. Ideal matches include grilled fish, shellfish—especially clams and mussels—calamari, sushi, and seafood-based pasta or risotto. These pairings highlight the wine’s freshness while enhancing the natural flavours of the sea.
Its crisp profile also complements vegetable salads and lighter poultry dishes, offering a refreshing contrast. When paired with creamy cheeses such as mozzarella di bufala or ricotta, Forastera’s acidity acts as a palate cleanser, creating a beautifully balanced tasting experience.
