Description

Tenuta Vitagliano is a family‑run winery born from an ancient passion, the estate has been dedicated to quality and craftsmanship since 2001, earning prestigious regional awards and recognized quality certifications over the years.
The cellar and vineyards are located in San Martino Valle Caudina (Avellino), in the heart of Irpinia, within the unspoiled landscape of the Partenio Regional Park—a unique territory that gives the wines their distinctive character.

Each wine is the result of meticulous control throughout every stage of production—from vineyard cultivation and harvest to ageing. Thanks to this rigorous approach, the wines proudly bear the Irpinia DOP and Campania IGP denominations, expressions of origin, quality, and character.

According to some historians, Sciascinoso was once considered the same variety known by several synonyms, including Sanginosa, Olivella Grande, and Olivellone. However, genetic studies have clarified that Sciascinoso and Olivella are distinct varieties. The term Olivella was historically used to describe multiple grapes with olive‑shaped berries, leading to long‑standing confusion.

Today, Sciascinoso is recognized as a unique variety cultivated exclusively in Campania, especially in the provinces of Avellino and Benevento.

Sciascinoso is a vigorous vine with low natural fertility, often below one cluster per shoot. Despite this, yields are balanced thanks to the consistent weight of its bunches. It adapts well to espalier training systems, even with its lush vegetative growth.

As one of the earliest budding varieties, it is particularly susceptible to downy mildew and botrytis. Sugar accumulation tends to be moderate, with harvest typically taking place at the end of October. Total acidity remains well sustained, contributing to freshness in the finished wine.

In the glass, Sciascinoso displays a bright ruby red colour with delicate purplish highlights, On the nose, it is intense and persistent, with floral notes intertwined with ripe red fruit and hints of aromatic and medicinal herbs.

On the palate, the wine is dry and savoury, with low tannins and a notably soft, approachable structure.
