Description

The “Lacryma Christi Del Vesuvio” is a famous Neapolitan wine, produced in the past by monks in their monasteries near to the slopes of Mount Vesuvius.

A lot of myths and legends have grown up in the course of the centuries around this wine.

It was said that when Lucifer was ejected from Heaven, he stole a piece of heaven with him. In his haste to avoid capture, he accidentally dropped the piece of heaven onto the Bay of Naples and avoided capture.

Seeing what Lucifer had done, Christ shed some tears which fell onto the Bay of Naples. From Christ’s tears, grape vines started to grow.

Grape: Coda Di Volpe 80% Falanghina 20%

Soil Type: Volcanic in nature, situated around the base of Mount Vesuvius.

The Vine: This southern vine type finds its maximum spread in the province of Naples, to the slopes of Mount Vesuvius.  Pliny recounted a grape of the name “Alopecis” subsequently identified as “Coda Di Volpe” (“a vixen tail”), due to the grape cluster resembling a vixen’s tail

Harvest: First week of October.

Vinification: Pressing of entire clusters, fermentation partially lead with local natural yeasts. Malolactic fermentation partially carried out.

Tasting Notes: Light straw-yellow in colour, it has a good structure, refined and long lasting perfumes with evident floral and fruity tones and its texture reveals the underlying high quality of the fruit.

Alcohol Content: 13%
