Description
Pietracupa was founded in 1990 and is situated in Montefredane, near Avellino, a mountainous terrain where elevation is key in producing wines with great character. Here the young and talented Sabino “Sammy Bruno” Loffredo quickly gained a reputation within Italy and abroad, for some of the best Greco and Fiano wines around. Pietracupa wines represent his style and his idea of the wine world. He is one of the most successful examples of how a small producer can produce great wines that also have wonderful ageing potential and become magnificently complex in the bottle.
Taurasi is an important red wine from Campania. Taurasi is based principally on the Aglianico indigenous grape variety produced in the province of Avellino. In spite of Taurasi’s ancient origins, it is also regarded as a modern wine. From the late 1960’s Taurasi has grabbed international attention and since then, the area’s popularity and reputation has soared.
Taurasi by Pietracupa boasts a real sense of elegance; both subtlety and depth, power and freshness characterise this red on the nose and the palate. The complex nose combines a wealth of fresh dark fruits, a strong mineral personality with flecks of iron and a gamey, meaty tone. Meanwhile, the palate initially expresses fleshy, red stewed fruits which transform to earthy, animal notes and finally culminates in a long, white-peppery finish. The body is light but possesses a slight creaminess, the tannins are fine and the acidity bright. A powerful but approachable, lovely wine.
To enjoy it at its best, we recommend you to let the wine ‘breathe’ at least 1 or 2 hours before serving.
Grape Variety: Aglianico
Food pairing: The best way to pair Taurasi is with roasted meats, wild game, truffles and aged cheeses. Try it with Risotto with porcini and black truffles.
When to drink: This is a wine with great ageing potential. Excellent if you drink it now, but we at Campania Wines suggest to let it rest in your cellar to best appreciate the great qualities that will mature over time.
