Description
Casa Setaro Piedirosso was born on the slopes of Mount Vesuvius, from the initiative of the Setaro family that with great dedication was able to revolutionize the style and perception of the local grape varieties and make them into sought after wines around the world.
The vineyard is located 300m above sea level on Mount Vesuvius. The vines, un-grafted are Guyot trained.
The grapes are selected by hand, de-stemmed, and cryo-macerated for up to 48 hours. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature for up to 12 days. Once fermented, the wine is placed in amphora and then in large French oak barrels for up to 12 months, with a further 2 months in the bottle.
Grape variety: Piedirosso 100%
Tasting notes: Intense ruby red colour with purple shades, floral and fruity with notes of geraniums and violets, and red fruits such as cherry and plums. Voluptuous in the mouth, round and balanced with good acidity, and fine grained tannins. The finish is long and memorable.
Alcohol: 14%
Serving temperature: 14-16C
Ideal with: Red meats, meaty lasagne and mature cheeses.
We recommend aerating, decanting or in glass breathing of this wine for an hour or so. Upon opening, it’s quite tight, and the air will certainly open it up nicely.
Awards: Best in Show for Southern Italy at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2021 . 97 Points.
