Description
Greco di Tufo is the most noble of the southern Italian grapes. It was known in ancient times as Aminea gemella, as it developed a large number of double clusters. According to Aristotle, the vines of Aminee came from Thessaly, the land of origin of the Thessalians who settled in Campania and planted the Greco vines on the slopes of Vesuvius. Pliny and Virgil wrote that the grapes of Aminee have been enjoyed since antiquity for their capacity of producing wines with aging potential. The site of Tufo has been for centuries one of cultivation of Greco, given the virtues of the extraordinary characteristics of its soil. These crisp white wines show aromatic notes of peach, pear and almond with a distinct minerally streak. The chalky soils around Tufo impart minerality, freshness and length.

“The 2016 Greco di Tufo Cutizzi is an expressive and authentic expression with slightly harder lines and denser texture. This is a compact and well-built wine with vibrant tones of citrus, peach and exotic fruit. This wine offers a unique punch to the palate with extra nerve and muscle. The finish is dry and mineral driven.” Monica Larner August 2017.
